Fidelity Investments announced Thursday that it had developed an iPad app for independent advisors and family office professionals using Fidelity WealthCentral, its open technology platform.
Available as a free download from the App Store, the new app extends the WealthCentral mobile strategy to allow advisors and family office professionals to place domestic equity, ETF and mutual fund orders on behalf of their clients, and access client account balances, holdings and transaction activity from the convenience of their iPads.
Edward O’Brien, senior vice president and head of technology, Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services and Fidelity Family Office Services, said in a statement, “We are applying our experience as a leading innovator in mobile trading and investing to deliver the very best mobile tools available. This is all part of our ongoing commitment to helping our clients and their customers leverage technology to become more efficient, productive and connected with their investments, which is even more critical in today’s volatile markets.”
The app allows advisors and family office professionals to function as if they were in a desktop setting for working across all accounts or isolating a single account. Features supported by the app include placing domestic equity, ETF and mutual fund orders; viewing order status across client accounts; accessing client account profiles, holdings and balances; checking account positions and transaction activity; viewing, searching and filtering key alerts prior to client visits; stock quotes; third-party news stories; and preference customization.
Thomas M. Roche, vice president of operations and client service director, Reynders, McVeigh Capital Management, who participated in the user test group for the new app, said in a statement, “We see the iPad as a must-have device for investment professionals on the go and an opportunity to stay connected to our clients and their investment portfolios at all times. What’s great about the WealthCentral app is its simplicity. Being able to quickly access client accounts in the same way we do on our desktops and with the same level of security–and execute a strategy from anywhere, anytime–allows us to improve our overall efficiency and deliver a better experience to our clients.”
Investors who work with RIAs on Fidelity’s brokerage platform or are clients of Fidelity Family Office Services have access to their accounts through Fidelity’s newly updated iPad app for investors.
