Smith Barney Veteran Joins Baird

Baird continues to attract wirehouse advisors, like Dennis Rowland of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, as it opens new offices nationwide.

Baird says that longtime Smith Barney veteran Dennis B. G. Rowland joined the employee-owned international wealth management firm as senior vice president.

Rowland's new job is to recruit financial advisors and open a new wealth management office in St. Paul, Minn. He will serve as manager of the future Baird branch.

A 31-year industry professional, Rowland previously managed the St. Paul and Duluth, Minn., branches of Smith Barney, which is now a division of Morgan Stanley -- including 29 advisors, 7 operations professionals and 10 sales assistants. The office produced $14 million in annual revenue.

Before serving as a branch manager, Rowland was a financial advisor for nearly 20 years - first with Dain Bosworth (RBC Dain) and later with Smith Barney.

"Dennis is a tremendous addition to our Private Wealth Management business and to Baird," says Erik Dahlberg, managing director, regional director for Baird. "With his deep industry knowledge and appreciation for Baird's unique culture, he is well suited to recruit other talented and committed financial professionals and expand the firm's presence in the Twin Cities. We're very pleased he has chosen to continue his career at Baird."

Baird now has more than 650 financial advisors and $53 million in client assets.

It added 105 FAs in 2009, including many from the wirehouses.
