The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds were $488.8 billion for the latest reporting period, according to the Investment Company Institute. The Institute's monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.
Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in July by $2.9 million, or 0.6 percent, to $488.8 billion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $140.4 billion, or 40.3 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $70.1 billion since July 2006, and global equity ETFs assets rose $61.7 billion during this period. During July, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $12 billion. So far this year, ETFs experienced a net issuance of $43.7 billion.
